With much anticipation, Zoe and I rode the Tour De Blast this year. After participating in the epic Tour de Blast ride in 2005, I was a little scared about the potential rain and my own body’s performance.
Zoe, Brian, their two kids; Elliott and Macey, along with their dog, Ella, camped with me at Seaquest state park the night before. The weather was perfect and we filled up on pasta and s’mores over the campfire. The next morning, we woke up so promptly (or was it that we were just not sleeping in the first place?), we got a prime parking spot right next to the showers. The day was simply beautiful, clear and unseasonably warm. Zoe wasn’t feeling too well due to having a cold, which meant (good for me) that we had equally matched paces. Once we climbed the 5,000 ft and 42 miles to Johnston Ridge, we found out that the kids were so sick that Brian had to take them all the way home. We got down as quickly as we could, feasted on spaghetti, closed up camp and then drove home.
